Randolph parents were looking for a fun community event that brought families together for a common cause. We've just concluded a monster week of Arts in Education, and since we care a lot about academics, arts, and athletics, it seemed natural to consider a physical education piece.

Great news! For the first time in a while, the percentage of adult Americans who exercise at least three times a week is increasing, according to Time magazine's source. The tide is turning on the epidemic of unhealthy eating and inactivity. It makes sense to host an event that focuses on movement. Fitness Fest is just that event.

Learn - watch and join our demonstrations about Taekwondo, The Physics of Pirouettes, The Science of Bottle Flipping, Drumming Circles, and more.

Experience - disc golf, hand drumming, cheer, hula hoops, hopscotch, hip-hop

Be Informed - many area fitness vendors will be on hand to share information about their businesses. Visit with representatives from D1, SWEAT, Orangetheory, Soles, Jill's, AYB, Joe Martin with Huntsville Boot Camp, Absolute Nutrition.

Engage - fun run lap challenge (personalized for each child); up close vehicles like a firetruck, ambulance, tractor, police car, construction trucks, Humvee, Conestoga wagon; the Big Green Bus

Enjoy - join other families outdoors for all of these activities plus the college football pregame show on the big screen and free breakfast snacks.

Randolph's dynamic Lower School Science teacher and Summer Program Coordinator Kelley Wolfe says, "Kids will flip over The Science of Bottle Flipping as we ask questions like 'will a bottle behave differently with different amounts of water?'"

Kids can benefit from the advice of Randolph's amazing Strength and Conditioning Coach, Shawn Gaunt, as he works on the agility of our young athletes. Randolph is preparing kids for the varsity level and this perspective helps Shawn to guide his approach to coaching. Coach Gaunt invites kids to "run, jump and crawl their way into fitness fun" at the Fitness Fest.
